Premier League

Brighton have pulled off a massive shock by outclassing Southampton at St Mary’s. A goal from Alexis Sanchez and another from Ryan Babel saw the Seagulls beat the Saints 2-0 on Saturday. They are the first team to pull off such a feat since Manchester City thumped Tottenham in 2006.

Brighton vs Southampton: Full match highlights

For Brighton, it was a much better start than they had in their previous three matches. Adam Lallana scored the opener with a well taken header after a good cross from Solly March. Then the Brighton faithful were treated to a very impressive display of football.

However, that was not enough to take the lead against Southampton. Instead, the Saints’ best player this season, Romeo Lavia, was sidelined due to injury. They were also without Adam Webster, who was ruled out with an ankle injury.

While the Saints were making good progress, Brighton were doing their best to keep them from advancing. In the end, the visitors enjoyed a 3-2 win.

Although, Brighton’s victory is a step in the right direction in their fight for survival, there is still a lot to be desired. Still, they have to be proud of their performance on the road. Their goalkeeping was good, they took control of the game at both ends of the pitch and the quality of their midfield was superb.

Southampton are 20th in the table with 12 points after 16 matches. That’s five less than they managed last season, but they’re fighting to climb the table.

Despite the defeat, Southampton remain in the relegation zone. But, they’re a better side than they were this time last season.
